We have answered the most fequently asked questions to hopefully cover anything you wish to know and to see if Butterfly Valley/Island is for you.

Where is Butterfly Valley?

We are situated 8km south of Cardwell, 1hr 45minutes North of Townsville and 3ish hours south of Cairns. We are situated in the perfect spot between bush and sea on 160 acres of surrounding nature with the stunning Five Mile Creek running through.

Q: What types of accommodation are available?

A: We offer a range of options! Our cozy homestead sleeps 10, while our charming cabins come with 1-2 bedrooms. Groups of up to 28+ can enjoy a fiesta! We offer the option to rent the entire property. Contact us via email for more information/options.

Q: What type of car can access Butterfly Valley?

A: Any car can access Butterfly Valley via a fully gravelled road. However, for access to our camp area, a 4WD is required due to the rocky terrain.

Q: Do you host weddings and provide catering?

A: Yes, we host intimate weddings with stunning views. There’s a 3-night minimum stay requirement, and we offer various options. While we don’t provide catering, we can recommend experienced caterers who have worked with us before.

Q: Are dogs allowed?

A: Yes, we love dogs! They are welcome, but we have some rules to ensure everyone’s enjoyment. Please review our terms and conditions on our website for details.

Q: What are the payment options?

A: When booking online, you can pay by card or bank transfer. With paying via Bank Transfer, a 50% deposit is required within 24 hours of booking to secure your dates, with the remaining amount due three weeks prior to your stay. For group bookings, we can send you an invoice for card or bank transfer payment.

Q: How do we access our accommodation?

A: Before your stay, you’ll receive a gate code and all the necessary information to find & access your cabin or area.

Q: Do you supply firewood?

A: Yes, we supply firewood at $15 per 20Litre Bucket. Be sure to order it before your stay.

Q: Is there Wi-Fi available?

A: No, we don’t have Wi-Fi. Instead, you’ll have the best of nature and countless adventures to enjoy.

Q: Who can access the creek, waterfall, and walking tracks?

A: Everyone staying at Butterfly Valley has access to Five Mile Creek. Cabin guests also have private access to the walking tracks, waterfall, and other water holes.

Q: What do I need to bring if I’m staying in a cabin?

A: Our cabins are fully self-contained with a kitchen, bathroom (shower only), microwave, fridge, and provided linen and towels. Just bring yourself and any specific holiday essentials you prefer. Local food stores like the Fruit Bowl or IGA can supply your food needs.

Q: Where can we eat out?

A: Cardwell, only 8-10 minutes away, offers wonderful cafes and restaurants. You can choose between takeaway or fine dining.

Q: What do I need to bring for camping?

A: Our camp area has no amenities, so you must be self-contained.

Q: Can I bring my caravan/camper trailer/van?

A: Yes, you can bring caravans, camper trailers, and vans under 19ft, provided they can handle a 200m bumpy and rocky road, which is why we recommend off-road.

Q: Do I need to book a camping spot?

A: Yes, you must contact us before your desired stay dates, to ensure we have the availability.

Q: How much is your accommodation?

A: Cabin prices start from $175+ GST, with an additional $15 per dog per night. Kids under 2 stay free. And it’s a two-night minimum stay – We do not do one-night stays.

Camping is $10 per person, with an extra $5 per dog (cash donation). Kids under 5 stay free.
